Milan, Fondazione Luciana Matalon
8th – 30th October 2022
Opening : Friday, October 7th 2022, from 6pm (by invitation only)
After the exhibitions at Photokina in Cologne, New York, Dubai, Birmingham, Tunis and Paris, “Atlas of Humanity” is hosted from 8th to 30th October at the Luciana Matalon Foundation.
Atlas of Humanity is an ongoing project, conceived and curated by Martin Vegas. The goal is the mapping of the populations that inhabit our planet by way of a cultural-anthropological and ethnological reading: through dialogue and comparison, thus emerge cultural differences between ethnic groups.
UNESCO defines cultural diversity as “a defining characteristic of humanity” and that’s why it represents “the common heritage of humanity and should be recognized and affirmed for the benefit of present and future generations”. Atlas of Humanity was established in line with this thought and translates it into a collection of images and stories from around the world, documenting the daily lives of individuals from every culture worldwide.
The project covers more than 500 ethnic groups and each photograph focuses on the diversity of the subject and its peculiarities. All the photographers on display are united in a common journey: to show, without any claim of being comprehensive, the great wealth of the peoples that inhabit our planet in a choral vision of humanity.
Two of the photographers on display, the awarded travel photographers Trevor Cole and Alessandro Bergamini will make 2 special talks about their encounters and their photography on Saturday 8 October from 5pm to 7pm.
