Biographies

The duo, composed of flutist Paolo Zampini and pianist Primo Oliva, was formed in 2002 at the “Luigi Cherubini” Conservatory in Florence, where both were Professors of their respective instruments. Since then, the duo has performed over 500 concerts throughout Italy, earning unanimous and enthusiastic acclaim from audiences and critics. Graduates under the guidance of renowned masters, and musically nurtured in academic settings, they are also open to experimenting with various musical genres (Pop, Blues, Contemporary Music), distinguishing themselves by presenting rarely performed repertoires.

In 2003, they recorded a live performance of Claude Bolling’s Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano Trio. In 2010, Andrea Morricone—son of the great Ennio—dedicated a series of compositions to them, which they premiered in Montevarchi. They later performed these works as guests of honor at the prestigious Montemartini Central Festival in Rome, an event broadcast by Rai. Recently, their CD—reissued with additional tracks—has been featured multiple times on both Swiss Italian Radio and Radio Tre. Their musical activities, even outside of the duo, have significant artistic merit.

Primo Oliva, an honorary member of New York University, boasts a prestigious career as a composer and debuted at Carnegie Hall in New York.

Paolo Zampini has collaborated with renowned composers such as Bacalov, Ortolani, Pregadio, Piccioni, Piovani, and Piersanti. Since 1985, he has been Ennio Morricone’s flutist. From 2015 to 2021, he served as Director of the “Luigi Cherubini” Conservatory in Florence.
