From February 28 to March 29, 2025, the Luciana Matalon Foundation will host Arcipelaghi Visivi, an exhibition dedicated to the artists of the Enciclopedia d’Arte Italiana. The show, structured into three distinct yet interconnected pathways, invites visitors to explore art’s role as a critical and poetic medium capable of questioning not only our relationship with the world but also with ourselves.
The exhibitions, organized by the Enciclopedia d’Arte Italiana and hosted in the elegant and prestigious spaces of the Luciana Matalon Foundation, combine the group show Sguardi d’Autore 2025, which brings together eleven creative expressions of contemporary art, with two solo exhibitions by painter Nicol Ferrari and sculptor Roberto Fiasella.
Visual Archipelagos represents a shared reflection on the role of perception as a creative act. As philosopher Maurice Merleau-Ponty (Rochefort, 1908 – Paris, 1961) reminds us, seeing is never a passive process but an experience intertwining body, thought, and memory. Similarly, the artists featured in the group show Sguardi d’Autore 2025—on display from February 28 to March 7—explore their inner worlds through their creative gaze.
The selected artists—Roberta Bissoli, Giorgio Carluccio, Laura Casini, Drago Cerchiari, Elisa Macaluso, Peter Seeling, Carla Colombo Sala, Enza De Paolis, Claudio Detto, Jucci Ugolotti, and Marco A. Vignati—offer personal perspectives through a rich multidisciplinary expressive system that ranges from photography to painting, sculpture to installation. The result is a broad panorama of contemporary expressive language, enriched by the ideal dialogue between Italian and international artists (Peter Seeling and Laura Casini).
The exhibition also marks the official launch of the exhibition and editorial activities of the Enciclopedia d’Arte Italiana. As part of the event, the new printed volume—the 13th edition—will be presented on February 28, featuring a recent work by sculptor Renzo Eusebi on its cover.
From March 8 to 15, the spotlight will shift to Nicol Ferrari’s solo exhibition Beyond Transparency. With a long creative history oscillating between abstraction and geometry, and a deep exploration of veils and transparencies, the artist will present previously unseen works, including new sculptural explorations alongside paintings. During the opening, Nicol Ferrari will share insights into the evolution of her recent artistic journey.
From March 20 to 29, Roberto Fiasella will take center stage as this year’s Artist of the Year selected by the Enciclopedia d’Arte Italiana. Fresh from a season of major exhibitions across Italy, Fiasella arrives at the Matalon Foundation with his celebrated sculptures dedicated to the world of horses. His extraordinary ability to capture the harmony of movement with grace and lightness reflects the artist’s deep connection to the equestrian world, which he has frequented and loved for many years.
The event, spanning the entire month of March 2025, is part of the ninth edition of Milano MuseoCity, a celebration that involves art, history, design, scientific museums, house museums, artist archives, and corporate museums across the city.
Visual Archipelagos is not just an exhibition but a crossroads of artistic expressions tied to the fascinating world of contemporary art. During the presentation of the printed volume, the directors of the Enciclopedia d’Arte Italiana, Rita and Filippo Ramella, will award a lifetime achievement prize to photographer Anna Maria Angelini.
The exhibitions will be presented by Sofia Alberti (Head of the Luciana Matalon Foundation) and Alberto Moioli (Editorial Director of the Enciclopedia d’Arte Italiana).
