The photographic exhibition “Immagini dal fronte” (Images from the Front) explore the significant moments of the Great War, and the everyday life in the battlefront, featuring a wide selection of 120 photos from the Cesare Pozzo’s Library that have never been displayed before. Hosted in Milan at the Luciana Matalon Foundation in collaboration with Cesare Pozzo Foundation, it will be open from May the 3^rd to May the 29^th 2022.

The exhibition is designed to give visitors an historic witness: the 120 selected photographs document a crucial historic moment, but also tell the origin of Italian photojournalism. Pictures are displayed in their original prints or as reproductions to help viewers to best capture every detail.

Eleonora Belloni and Alessandra P. Giordano, the two curators, wanted to narrate the whole Great War and not only the conflict from the Italian point of view. In order to do so they selected pictures from 1914 to 1918.

The displayed subjects can be divided into two main themes: the daily life at the front and the war in the first line. Striking positions and resistance lines, prisoners, trenches, actions and awaiting moments, the destruction brought upon cities by the war. Everyday life during those years is also represented with official visits and private moments such as grooming or writing of letters.

Luciana Matalon Foundation organized two events to enrich the exhibition experience:

• Saturday May the 14^th at 4:00 pm, conference about the Great War and its transportations. Reservation is required.
• Saturday May the 21^st at 6:00 pm, Chamber music concert. Soprano Raffaella Lee and piano duet Sugiko Chinen and Luca A. M. Colombo will perform pieces belonging to the Belle Epoque up to the first post-war period. Reservation is required.
